Description

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for working up the patient, assisting the doctor, and performing diagnostic testing.

Responsibilities

  • • Works up patients
  • • Performs pretesting and diagnostic testing
  • • Assists physicians with procedures
  • • Assists physicians with documentation in the EHR
  • • Scribes for physicians when needed
  • • Maintains exam rooms including stocking and cleaning
  • • Checks and stocks travel bags and equipment for satellites
  • • Assists with maintaining and ordering medical supplies
  • • Travels to satellite locations as needed
  • • Provides on-going training of Patient Care Assistants
  • • Maintains knowledge of and follows policies, procedures, Code of Conduct, and all Federal and state rules and regulations related to the position.
  • • Attends all required compliance trainings.
  • • Fill RX refill request
  • • Triage patients/decides if/when follow up is necessary.
  • • Return patient phone calls/answering questions or concerns
  • • Completes all required compliance training.
  • • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

Experience Requirements

1 year

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required; a minimum of one (1) year ophthalmic clinical experience is preferred; experience with electronic health records is preferred.

  • • Knowledge of anatomy of the eye, ocular conditions and ocular imaging equipment
  • • Ability to do a basic slit lamp exam, refract the patient and use the following equipment: auto-refractor, tonometry, visual fields, OCT, pachymetry, corneal topography, Optical Biometry (including IOL Master and/or Lenstar), B-scan and A-Scan
  • • Ability to transfer mobile patients to exam chair and occasionally move patients in a wheelchair
  • • Good problem solving and decision-making skills
  • • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • • Good dexterity
  • • Good computer skills including use of standard office programs
  • • Ability to perform tasks in a timely manner
  • • Ability to speak, read, and write in English
