Description

This opening is for a Staff Optometrist working with technicians and an Ophthalmologist in the Caldwell, Idaho Community-Based Outpatient Clinic. Staff optometrists are responsible for participating in all aspects of the Optometry Section's program. This may include clinical, administrative, academic, and research components. They manage patient care responsibilities at assigned duty stations with available staffing as needed/directed by the Chief of Optometry.

Responsibilities

  • - Deliver high quality eye and vision care to eligible veterans.
  • - Create and maintain a patient centered care environment while meeting the demands involved with providing clinical care.
  • - Collaborate with multiple divisions/services/providers throughout the facility to improve outcomes and efficiencies.
  • - Collaborate with other optometrists, ophthalmologists, nursing staff, technicians and administrators to facilitate operations within the Eye Care Service to meet common goals.
  • - Perform the administrative components of patient care management, including timely completion of progress notes, consults, and encounters for all patient care activities.
  • - Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • - Provide clinical coverage as needed for the Eye Care Service at any VA Boise HCS eye clinic location.
  • - Establish and promote an atmosphere of unity with Care Center staff and providers through collaborative practice and effective communication between all disciplines.
  • - Possess a high level of flexibility and commitment to meet the dynamic needs of an evolving patient care system.

Experience Requirements

2 years

  • Two years of optometric practice or its equivalent.
  • One year of approved residency training or its creditable equivalent acceptable to the Council on Optometric Education of the American Optometric Association is acceptable in lieu of the 2 years of practice.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated the professional competence and performance necessary to provide independently the full range of clinical optometric diagnosis and treatment for all the most prevalent types of vision dysfunctions and the detection and referral of patients with ocular disease or ocular manifestations of systemic disease.
